More than 15 species of frog have been identified as living on and around Lilyponds Holiday Park. During summer particularly after a shower of rain the park is enveloped in a nighttime cacophony of frog sound as the amphibians call for a mate.

The most common sounds are from the Striped Marshfrog and the Great Barred Frog who can be heard most summer nights with other frogs adding to the noise levels according to their breeding season.


Eastern Sedgefrog
Litoria fallax

Length 25 mm. Green, pale brown or green sided frog with white stripe from below the angle of the jaw, below the eye, to the base of the forearm; underneath white and granular; iris golden; ear disc brown; hind surface of thighs orange. Fingers with rounded toe discs and almost no webbing, toes about three quarters webbed.


Great Barred Frog
Mixophes fasciolatus

Length 80 mm. Dark brown frog with very broad, flat, rounded head; dark band on back that starts as a "T" or "Y" shape between the eyes; thin black stripe from nostril to eye and continuing backwards over ear disc; legs with thin crossbars that widen at the ends. Fingers unwebbed and toes three quarters webbed.


Graceful Tree Frog
Litoria gracilenta

Length 45 mm. Pale leaf green to pea green on back and yellow underneath; bright orange iris with yellow lips; green patch on forearm surrounded by yellow; belly yellow; hind surface of thighs, bright purple or purple brown. Fingers almost fully webbed, toes fully webbed, with large both fingers and toes having large discs.


Wallum Sedgefrog
Litoria olongburensis

Length 25 mm. Light brown to bright green above with dark stripe bordered below by cream streak running from the nostril to the flank; underneath cream with brown flecks on the throat; groin orange and purple; hind surface of thighs orange and purple or orange and blue. Fingers and toes are narrow, with the fingers having rounded toe discs and being webbed at the base, toes about half webbed.


Tusked Frog
Adelotus brevis

Length, females 50 mm, males 40 mm. Olive green to blackish frogs with warty back, irregular variegated markings and butterfly shaped mark on top of head; head of male about half the size of body; pair of tusks at front of lower jaw; underneath densely marbled black and white, black and red or orange marbled patches in groin and back of leg; throat dark grey with light peppering; the skin is rough with low ridges and warts. Fingers unwebbed, toes have traces of webbing.


Clicking Froglet
Crinia signifera

Length 30 mm. High variable brownish or greyish frog; back smooth, warty or ridged; pale spot at base of arm and below tail; throat and chest in males are dark grey; underside granular and marbled dark grey or blackish and white. Fingers and toes long.


Southern Orange-eyed Treefrog
Litoria chloris

Length 65 mm. Green treefrog with green lips; forearm mainly green; white to lemon-yellow belly; hind side of thighs purplish-red or brown, sometimes, with an iridescent tinge; the eye is bright reddish-orange in colour. Fingers almost fully webbed, toes fully webbed.


Bleating Treefrog
Litoria dentata

Length 45 mm. Blunt snouted, pale brown or cream treefrog with a broad, dark, three lobed stripe down middle of back, from tip of the snout to the cloaca; dark brown stripe from nostril through eye to groin, darker and narrower towards head; upper half of the iris is a deep red; lower sides and hidden parts of thighs may be yellow; underneath yellowish-white; breeding males may have yellow, brown or black throat. Fingers about one third webbed, toes about three quarters webbed.


Broad-palmed Rocketfrog
Litoria latopalmata

Length females 45 mm, males 35 mm. Back pale grey to dark brown, sometimes with indistinct blotches and a few small warts; underneath white and granular; thin black stripe from nostril to front of eye, nearly cut by a thin white, vertical bar from just in front of, and curving under, the eye, extending almost to the corner of the mouth; stripe encloses ear disc ( not pale rimmed ); hind surface of thighs yellow with darker markings; sometimes thin dark line or spots along hind edge of lower leg and foot. Fingers and toes long; fingers unwebbed, with small discs, toes have very small discs and are almost fully webbed, which is reduced on the fourth and fifth toes.


Green Tree Frog
Litoria caerulea

Length up to about 100 mm. Bright green or sometimes light olive-brown treefrog with a skin fold running from the eye to the shoulder, with smooth skin; snout short and rounded; iris is a golden colour with a horizontal pupil; irregular white stripe or series of spots from corner of mouth to base of the arm; white belly. Fingers about one third webbed, toes about three quarters webbed with large toe pads.


Laughing Treefrog
Litoria tyleri

Length 50 mm. Elongated treefrog with a small head and large eyes. Mottled grey to brown with fine granular skin, sometimes with a few iridescent green spots on back; distinct ear disc; golden coloured iris with cross shaped pupil; underneath cream or yellowish; groin and hind surface of thighs yellow and dark brown to black. Fingers about half webbed, toes nearly fully webbed, with large toe discs.


Scarlet sided pobblebonk
Limnodynastes terraereginae

Length 75 mm. Grey to brown on back, with occasional darker flecks and blotches, sometimes with a faint stripe down the middle; irregular red or reddish-yellow along sides and upper arm; bright red groin and hind surface of thigh; swollen gland on upper surface of lower leg; thick, yellow fold of skin from below eye to arm; underside white or yellow. Fingers unwebbed and toes with traces only.


Striped Marsh Frog
Limnodynastes peronii

Length 65 mm. Light brown to grey-brown with broad dark stripes down back, may also be pale thin line along middle of back; broad, curved, dark stripe from snout through nostril, eye and ear disc to base of arm; pointed snout; pale raised stripe from below the eye to base of the arm; upper half of iris golden, lower half dark brown; underneath white, but males may have yellow throat with brown mottling. Long fingers and toes; fingers with no webbing, toes with only traces of webbing.



Striped Rocket Frog
Litoria nasuta

Length females to 55 mm, males to 45 mm. Extremely streamlined, long legged, sharp snouted frog; back yellow-brown to dark red-brown, with longitudinal warts, ridges and skin folds down middle of back; dark stripe from snout through eye broken up into a series of blotches along the flanks; pale rimmed ear disc enclosed by dark stripe; hind surface of thighs yellow with dark brown stripes; underneath white. Throats of breeding males yellow. Fingers unwebbed, toes about half webbed.



Emerald Spotted Treefrog
Litoria peronii

Length 65 mm. Grey or dark brown, to cream with irregular darker mottling and flecking with a scattering of small iridescent green spots scattered over back; skin is rough, with numerous low warts and tubercles; underneath granular and white, cream or yellowish with dark flecks on throat; groin and sides of thighs boldly mottled in black, or dark brown, and bright yellow which often extends to toe and webbing. Fingers about half webbed, toes almost fully webbed with large discs.
